To drive your writers’ growth, learn the how-tos of a proven, powerhouse teaching tool: mentor texts. In this three day series (March 21, 28, April 4) , you’ll learn how to use published texts to mentor students in the moves and thinking of seasoned writers. You’ll study a variety of mentor texts, watch demonstration videos of teachers in action, and get classroom-honed strategies that teach students to intentionally use writing conventions to craft more effective writing.

Participants will:

• Discover how and why mentor texts make a big difference in the quantity and quality of student writing
• Learn how to analyze texts for potential use as mentors that address multiple instructional goals
• Find ways to teach with mentor texts across whole-class lessons, small group instruction, and writing conferences
